FOOTBALLERS IN REPLAY TEST
Kanturk & Castletownbere return to Ballingeary for the replay of their Cork PIFC 1st round on Sunday 28th April with a 3pm start. Last time out the sides ended level on a 0-19 to 1-16 score line after extra time and if Kanturk can improve on their shooting they may tip the scales in their favor.
HURLERS DISAPPOINT IN CHAMPIONSHIP
Kanturk disappointed in the Cork SHC 1st round tie against Sarsfields at Mallow on Friday 19th April when a poor first half saw them in arrears 0-04 to 1-16 at the short whistle. An improved second half saw Kanturk compete more strongly but missed chances from placed balls hindered their chances as they lost 0-11 to 2-24.
Mixed Results for Juvenile teams
On Thursday 11th April Kanturk had both U14 and minor hurling teams in action. It resulted in mixed news with the Minors winning on a 4-24 to 1-10 score line away to Ballygiblin while Ballyhea, with home advantage got the better of our U14 hurlers on a score line of Kanturk 2-04 Ballyhea 5-11
Hurlers Vital League Win
Kanturk travelled the short journey to Glantane on Thursday 11th April to face city side, Na Piarsaigh in the RedFM Div1 SHL. Kanturk opened brightly in the first half and built up a 2-13 to 1-07 interval lead. The second half was a more even affair with Kanturk running out winners on a 2-19 to 1-13 score line.
Footballers Taken to Replay
Kanturk face a replay date with Castletownbere when their Cork PIFC 1st Round tie ended level after extra time at Ballingeary on Sunday 7th April. The final score after extra time was Kanturk 0-19 Castletownbere 1-16 with our lads kicking 19 wides over the eighty odd minutes of play.The replay has been set for the same venue on Sunday 28th April 3pm
FOOTBALLERS VITAL LEAGUE WIN
With a win worth 5 points in total, (4 plus 1 for fulfilling the fixture) Kanturk’s Division 2 victory over Macroom was a vital one which saw the team climb up the league table and give the team a little cushion from the relegation zone at present. Macroom had the better of the opening half and led by 1-3 to 0-11. Kanturk made home advantage tell in the second period as they recorded a 2-12 to 1-12 victory and round off their championship preparations with a win.
HURLERS COME UP SHORT IN LEAGUE TIE
Kanturk Senior Hurlers, short many regulars cam up short in their RedFM Division 1 SHL tie away to Killeagh losing out 0-10 to 0-16 after an entertaining encounter in East Cork on Sunday 24th March
U21 Footballers Bow out of Championship
Kanturk U21 footballers lost out after extra time to Knocknagree in the Semi Final of the Duhallow U21FC played at Millstreet on Saturday 23rd March. The contest was a close affair throughout with the half time score 2-02 to 2-04 in Knocknagree’s favour. Kanturk built up a head of steam in the second half and led by four points entering injury time but Knocknagree struck for 1-1 in the five minute period of added time to take the game to extra time 3-08 each. After the first period of extra time Knocknagree were two points to the good, but Kanturk battled back to level 3-11 each before Knocknagree got the score to give them victory on a final score line of Kanturk 3-11 Knocknagree 3-14
BUSY WEEKEND FOR JUVENILES
A busy weekend on the juvenile front sees the U12 footballers in league action away to Sliabh Luachra Gaels on Friday 22nd March with a 6.45pm start at Ballydesmond. On Saturday 23rd March the U16 footballers travel to Mournabbey to face the home side, Clyda Rovers in a re-arranged league tie with a 4pm start. On Sunday 24th March our U12 footballers have an early start travelling to Rathcormac for an 11am start against Bride Rovers. On Monday 25th March the Minor footballers travel to Fermoy to face the home side in their Rebel Og League tie with a 7.45pm start.
